VIP-only campaign
Show a higher-value gift only to customers tagged VIP in your Shopify customer database. Everyone else either sees a different campaign (e.g. a smaller universal threshold gift) or no gift at all.
How it works
- Trigger: Customer has tag VIP AND Cart subtotal at or above $30. (Lower threshold for VIPs - they're already loyal customers.)
- Reward: Premium gift box.
Customer-tag conditions require the Pro plan or above (Free / Growth get cart and line conditions only). The cart-subtotal half of the trigger works on every plan.
Tagging customers as VIP
This campaign assumes your store already has a "VIP" customer tag applied to a subset of customers. You can apply tags:
- Manually in the Shopify admin (one customer at a time)
- Automatically via Shopify Flow (e.g. tag any customer who has spent ≥$500 lifetime)
- Via Klaviyo / Segment / your CRM if it pushes tags into Shopify
For a Shopify Flow recipe that tags VIPs, see Operations → Shopify Flow recipes.
What happens if a customer loses the VIP tag mid-cart
Valotrix Cart Rewards re-evaluates every rule on every cart change. So:
- A customer is tagged VIP. They add $30 worth of products. The campaign fires and the premium gift is auto-added.
- A staff member removes the VIP tag from that customer (mid-session, in the Shopify admin).
- On the customer's next cart action (adding, removing, or updating any line), Valotrix Cart Rewards re-checks the rule. The "Customer has tag VIP" condition now fails, and the gift line is removed.
The quantity-lock protection still applies: while the gift is in the cart, the shopper can't bump its quantity above 1 to hoard inventory. The lock just doesn't survive the rule re-evaluation - once the customer no longer qualifies, the gift goes.
If you'd rather grandfather already-added gifts in this scenario, that's not configurable today; the rule-re-evaluation behavior is consistent across all condition types so shoppers can't game the system by qualifying briefly and then disqualifying.
Per-customer limits
To prevent a single VIP from claiming the gift on every order (e.g. 10 orders x premium gift box = inventory wipeout), open the rule's Delivery tab and scroll to Per-customer redemption limit. Switch the option card from Unlimited to Limited and set a maximum (e.g. "this customer can claim this gift no more than 3 times, ever").
Per-customer limits require the Pro $49/mo plan or above. See Per-customer limits for the full feature.
