Plan-cap safety: downgrades during a live promotion

If you downgrade from Scale to Pro (or Pro to Growth, etc.) during an active campaign, Valotrix Cart Rewards's downgrade handler runs automatically:

  1. Counts your enabled campaigns and rules.
  2. If the count exceeds the new plan's cap, sorts your active campaigns by (priority, createdAt): in-window-scheduled campaigns rank highest, then bare-on/off campaigns, then expired or not-yet-started ones; within each band the oldest wins. The handler keeps the top-of-list campaigns up to the cap and disables the rest (their toggle flips off; the campaign data is kept intact).
  3. Re-syncs the storefront discount so disabled campaigns stop firing immediately.

Disabled, not deleted. Your campaign data is preserved. When you re-upgrade, you can re-enable the campaigns from where you left off.

Plan caps

The active campaign / rule / custom-block caps per plan are:

PlanActive campaignsRules totalCustom blocks
Free111
Growth353
Prounlimitedunlimited10
Scaleunlimitedunlimitedunlimited

A rule is one trigger+reward pair within a campaign - a campaign can have multiple rules (each evaluated independently). A custom block is a placement of a Valotrix Cart Rewards theme app block (Threshold Bar, PDP Gift Preview, PDP Buy-Get Pairing, Urgency Banner, Inline Tier Stack, Collection Eligibility Overlay, Gift Unlock Celebration) on your storefront - Free gets one placement total, Growth gets three, Pro gets ten, Scale is unlimited.

Mid-sale safety guarantee

If you're in the middle of a promotion and Shopify auto-downgrades your plan (e.g. payment failure resolved), your oldest in-window-scheduled campaigns are the ones the downgrade handler keeps active up to the cap. The intent: a live promotion you scheduled days ago shouldn't lose to a test campaign you spun up this morning.

This isn't perfect - if you created a test campaign without a schedule recently and your live promotion is at the bottom of the priority band somehow, you may need to manually toggle. The safer move is to upgrade your plan before scaling up campaigns past the previous cap.

Features that stop working on a downgrade

Beyond the campaign / rule / block counts, some features turn off entirely when you downgrade to a plan that doesn't include them:

  • Tiered rewards require Growth+. Tiered rules on Free fall back to fixed-reward mode.
  • Gift choice popup requires Pro+. Choice popups on Growth or Free fall back to auto-add of the first option.
  • Custom code (Scale-only) reverts widgets to the closest built-in template.
  • A/B testing (Scale-only) freezes any in-flight experiments at downgrade time; results are preserved.
